If the IdPs of interest to you are part of InCommon, you can simply enhance the SP's shibboleth2.xml configuration file to download fresh copies of the InCommon bundled metadata. Learn more about this process here. WebIt is not necessary to exchange metadata for integrations that occur via InCommon Federation, which is one of the primary benefits of federation. For custom integrations that use the VT metadata, it is typically necessary to manually exchange metadata. The IdP metadata for every tier is available for download to provide to service providers:
