Its also much thicker and that means bigger notches if you put it in the stud walls (I realize you have a pole barn). I go with 1/2" EMt and 4 sq. boxes on everything. Use set screw connectors and couplings if weather is not a problem.

It can look really ugly when the PVC bows and kinks between the 2-hole straps. Sure, an expansion fitting can be used, but I would stick with steel/EMT for the exterior wall for esthetics.
